So I counted up how many days it's been since USF's last NCAA Tournament game on March 19, 1992. That's 19 years and 360 days. There are 365 days in a year, and there have been five leap days between March 1992 and today including the one this year. Multiply 365 by 20, cancel out the +5 and the -5, and there have been exactly 7,300 days since that loss to Georgetown.
Needless to say we've waited a very, very, very, VERY long time for this day to arrive. But we'll wait to celebrate this season until this season is actually over. It's not over yet.
#TheQuestFor27 begins now. Go Bulls!

Can we all agree that Mike Brey is a college basketball warlock? He wears terrible suits and has a creepy mock turtleneck fetish, but the guy churns out NCAA Tournament bids no matter what happens to his team between November and March. This year Tim Abromaitis blew out his knee three weeks into the season, and everyone wrote them off. And then the Irish just won another 21 games (including a nine-game winning streak in Big East play) and get a double-bye in New York. They were the only team to beat Syracuse, they thrashed Marquette by 17 points, and they won at Louisville and UConn.
Personally I think Brey is like a basketball version of Bill Snyder, minus about 20 years. He has good-not-great talent, and really you don't have any idea how the hell he's doing it, but his teams are almost impossible to kill, and every year you see them ranked and playing in the NCAA Tournament.
Maybe there's another explanation.
Still funny.

WHAT: USF vs. Villanova, Big East tournament second round
WHERE: Madison Square Garden, New York
WHEN: 30 minutes after the conclusion of Seton Hall-Louisville (roughly 9:30pm ET)
WHY: Because the brass ring is just sitting there waiting to be grabbed, after 20 long years of falling far short, or falling not quite as far short but still pretty short, or maybe once or twice legitimately falling just short, and a few times just saying "the hell with it" and not even trying and staying on the couch eating pretzels and pounding Yuengling

For the first time ever, USF skipped the tournament's first day thanks to a first-round bye. How did the Bulls go from a 10-23 season to earning a bye?
(This meme's going to get so old if we make it to Friday or Saturday.)

While every game is important, this one seems to have a little extra to it. Win, and murmurs about an NCAA bid start to get louder. Lose and its off to the NIT, not that there's anything wrong with that.
Game is on ESPN2, ESPN3, and 620 WDAE.
