Former FSU dynasty era WR Ron Dugans hired as WR coach at USF

After spending the last 4 years in the same position at Louisville. Seems like a very solid pickup.

Erin Fairs AAC Player of The Year, Andrea Rodriguez-Gomez First Team All-AAC

Our totally being in the tank for USF Volleyball is so cool sometimes, and today is one of those days we love. Sophomore Erin Fairs was named AAC Player of The Year today, the first conference MVP for the Bulls since Michelle Collier in 2002. Fairs came on our radio show earlier this season and talked about wanting to win this award, and her incredible improvement from freshman to sophomore year was rewarded with the nod. What separated her from the competition is the ability to be so effective in all six rotations, averaging a ridiculous-for-an-outside-hitter 4.41 digs per set as well as 3.73 kills. Did we mention she's just a sophomore?? Are you kidding?? Her ceiling is to be one of the best players in USF history, and it'll be fun to watch her climb the lists. Also a big congrats to Andrea Rodriguez-Gomez, who caps off her career with a First Team All-AAC nod. 'Dre was one of our favorite kids ever, and her smile is so bright the university put it on a billboard. The story of her family's journey to America after being political refugees from Chavez's Venezuela is amazing, and they should be incredibly proud of her both on and off the floor. She leaves USF after averaging 1.53 blocks per set and hitting .294 her senior year. Dre's engaged and moving back to Miami, and we'll miss her general goofy-ditziness in The Corral. She was the rare kid that could light up a room and a scoreboard, and it's been so much fun to watch her grow. She was also the only senior on this USF team, one that inked five kids on early signing day. The future looks bright for a team should be picked at or near the top of the league in 2014.

New Logo Unveiled For The American

Once we have photos available to us, we'll do a proper post, but this link will have to do. I don't have a strong positive or negative reaction to the logo. It's kind of clip art-y, but this could have gone a lot worse. I'm a bit confused about why the star is tilted and stretched to touch all the sides of the "A." Maybe we'll find out more during the press conference.

N.C. State Adds Brandon Mitchell; Bench Down To Two

According to ESPN's Joe Schad, Brandon Mitchell will transfer from Arkansas to North Carolina State. This likely eliminates NC State from the competition for the services of former Penn State QB Steven Bench. Bench visited USF last week, NC State over the weekend, and Mississippi State this week. Temple and FIU are also interested in Bench.

USF to play Florida in Winners' Bracket

Florida downs Hampton 7-1 and will meet USF in the winners' bracket of the Gainesville Regional. Sara Nevins will likely be the USF starter, and will ideally reprise her Bruce Springsteen impersonation. You know, she's a boss.

PSU's Steven Bench to visit USF

NBC Sports, citing the Jackson Clarion-Ledger's Mississippi State blog, says the Penn State QB will visit USF on May 13-14, MSU the weekend of the 18th, and North Carolina State May 20-21.

Oklahoma State's Lunt Not Considering USF

ESPN's Joe Schad says Wes Lunt has narrowed his list to five schools, and is "very likely to choose one of the five schools and not expand his search." Those schools are Illinois, Louisville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Southern Miss. The first four schools are all near Lunt's home state of Illinois, while USM head coach Todd Monken worked with Lunt at Oklahoma State.

Former Arkansas QB Brandon Mitchell Not Considering USF?

ESPN's Joe Schad, who originally reported USF a possible transfer destination for Mitchell, has a new post that adds Michigan to Mitchell's list of choices, but no longer includes USF. Northwestern State and Louisiana Tech are still listed, though.
