#21 S Khalid McGee
Freshman, 5'10", 180 lbs.
Stats in 2014: This will be Khalid's first year in the USF program. He played for Miami Northwestern High last fall.
Spot on Fall Camp Depth Chart: Not listed. No true freshman (apart from linebacker Danny Thomas, who enrolled early) are listed on the two-deep.
How He Came to USF: McGee was one of Willie Taggart's biggest gets of the class of 2015. He committed to the Bulls in August over an impressive list of offers, but many were expecting him to flip as National Signing Day approached. A few weeks before NSD he announced that he was "75% USF," and a week or so later said he would be signing. This was a strong recruiting job by Taggart and his staff.
That offer list, by the way, included Florida State, Wisconsin, Mississippi State, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Louisville, among many others.
Recruiting Rankings: Khalid was listed by most recruiting services as a mid-to-high three-star prospect. 247 tabbed him as the 46th-best safety in his class and 86th-best overall prospect in Florida; Rivals had him 50th among safeties and 78th among Florida prospects.
Projected Playing Time: The Bulls have a lot of bodies clogging up the secondary right now, so it's probably too much to expect McGee to come in and crack the lineup right away. That said, he's got enough talent that he'll see the field soon enough-- redshirt year or no redshirt year. Perhaps a year on the sideline learning Tom Allen's scheme would be a good thing for him.
Highlights: Here's Khalid's tape from Miami Northwestern. He's incredibly athletic and hits with a vengeance, which is a lovely combination. A young Jamie Byrd, perhaps?
