We mentioned on Tuesday that USF ace and general baseball savior Jimmy Herget was drafted in the sixth round of the MLB draft by the Cincinnati Reds and would be off to the pros next season. There was more good news last night, as several more Bulls and signees heard their names called. The complete list:
Player | Position | Year | Round | Team |
Jimmy Herget | RHP (starter) | Jr. | 6th | Reds |
Tommy Peterson | RHP (closer) | rSo. | 12th | Nationals |
Garrett Zech | OF | Signee | 15th | Dodgers |
Joe Genord | C | Signee | 19th | Dodgers |
Chris Chatfield | CF | Signee | 23rd | Padres |
Shane McClanahan | LHP | Signee | 26th | Mets |
Kyle Teaf | SS | Senior | 30th | Rays |
Coco Montes | SS | Signee | 35th | Nationals |
Casey Mulholland | RHP | Senior | 37th | Dodgers |
Congratulations to all those selected. We obviously couldn't be happier for Herget as he takes his talents to the pros, and it's awesome to see USF lifer Kyle Teaf, who's been a rock for the Bulls since the waning years of the Lelo Prado era, go out with a College World Series appearance and a selection by the hometown Rays. That couldn't have been scripted better.
There's no news yet on which Bulls will be staying and going, so stay tuned. We're hearing that we should retain the signees, which is huge-- look at that recruiting class! Regardless, this program is very, very clearly on an upward trajectory right now, and may be able to hold serve next season even with the loss of Herget.
