Stampeding The 2014 USF Football Roster: #45 RB Michael Pierre

This senior could be the Bulls' starter at running back this fall.

#45 RB Michael Pierre
Redshirt Senior, 5'10", 205 lbs.

Stats in 2013: Pierre played in eight games last season and started one, filling in nicely when Marcus Shaw went down with an injury. He lost playing time over the second half of the year to Darius Tice and Willie Davis and finished with 41 carries for 114 yards, good for fourth on the team. He also caught three passes for 32 yards.

Spot on 2013 Depth Chart: He wasn't listed by the season finale, but he was Shaw's primary backup for the first half of the season.

How did he come to USF: Here's a good story: Michael didn't play a down of football at high school at Orlando Agape Christian Academy, but upon graduating he realized, in his own words, "I didn't have any plans... no college, no nothing." A call from his brother led him to try out for the team at Golden West Community College in Huntington Beach, Calif., where he showed up unannounced and became a star, running for over 1,200 yards in two seasons. His raw athleticism and effort got him looks from a handful of Division I schools and eventually landed him at USF.

Recruiting Rankings: Pierre was given three stars coming out of Golden West by both Rivals and 247. He chose the Bulls over offers from Cal, East Carolina and San Jose State.

Projected Playing Time in 2014: Running back is anyone's guess right now, but Pierre might have the inside track for the starting job. Tice was banged up in the spring and Davis transferred out, but there's still highly-touted incoming freshmen D'Ernest Johnson and Marlon Mack to account for. No matter how it shakes out, it seems likely that Michael will be an important part of the rotation this season.

Fun Fact: How about a fun quote? Here's Coach T on Pierre's work ethic: "Every time you see Mike, he has a football. I don't care what: You go to the gas station and he's getting gas, he has the football with him.
