Bullogosphere: Stan's Future, Spring Football

Jack Harbaugh was down in Bradenton for spring break practices. - Scott Halleran

What do others think about the basketball program? And spring football is coming up fast.

With men's basketball finishing up last night, let's take a look at what others think of the program, and also some notes about spring football practice.

TBT: What might have been?

Friend of the blog Joey Knight takes a look back at the season, and goes through some pros and cons of keeping/firing Stan Heath. One the one hand, this was a young team with a lot of injuries; on the other, some shaky coaching and mental lapses. One big hurdle:

Heath has four years remaining on a contract that pays slightly more than $1 million per season. If he were to be fired, USF would owe him $1.5 million.

Creative Loafing: Stan Should Go

Local weekly paper Creative Loafing: Tampa says it's time for Stan Heath to go. The biggest thing they point out is Heath not focusing recruiting on local talent, listing a litany of local high school players who have done well elsewhere (although the two players going to UF and FSU probably wouldn't have come here regardless).

Football practicing down at Manatee High school

With USF campuses on spring break, the football team has been practicing down at Manatee High School in Bradenton. The link above has a run down of the activity.

Jack Harbaugh talks about his time with Willie Taggart

From the Bradenton Herald, former Western Kentucky coach Jack Harbaugh (father of the NFL's Jim and John) talks about his relationship with Willie Taggart, who he coached when Taggart was the QB at WKU.

"I have been a coach for 46 years, and Willie Taggart is the best recruiter I've ever been associated with."

The coaching scion also thinks USF will do well this season. The Bradenton Herald has a slide show on their website.

Athlon Sports: USF ranks 67th among the country's coaching jobs

Athlon Sports list USF #67 of the 128 coaching jobs in the country. USF ranks solidly mid-pack. On the plus side, USF is ahead of power 5 programs such as Kansas, Indiana, Wake Forest and Duke. But I get the feeling USF was probably higher a few years ago. On the minus side, UCF is one spot ahead of USF at #66. Ugh.
