Reports: Walt Wells and Nick Sheridan Fired From USF Football

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

According to CoachingSearch.com's Pete Roussel, USF Offensive Coordinator Walt Wells and Passing Game Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach Nick Sheridan will not be a part of the staff in 2014. Whether Wells and Sheridan were jettisoned or are taking positions at another school is unclear.

Interesting thought here from Josh Newberg of Bulls 247:

Wells and Sheridan might not have had much time with their players, but USF's offense was historically terrible in 2013, finishing dead last in FBS at 125th in offensive touchdowns per game, 123rd in yards per play, and 119th in points per play.

We'll have more as this develops, and will follow up as soon as we get confirmation of this from anyone in the Selmon Center.

UPDATE: It's official. Full statement from USF below:

University of South Florida Football coach Willie Taggart today announced that offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Walt Wells and quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Nick Sheridan will not return for the 2014 season.

"I would like to thank Walt and Nick for their hard work and dedication to the USF football program," Taggart said. "I appreciate their professionalism and service to USF and wish them the best in their future endeavors."

Both Wells and Sheridan completed their first season on the USF coaching staff in 2013 and had previously worked on Taggart's staff at Western Kentucky.

Taggart will begin an immediate search to fill the two coaching staff positions and will not comment on the status of that search until the positions have been filled.

The Bulls return 16 starters (9 offense, 5 defense and 2 specialists) for Taggart's second season at the helm.
