Bull-ogosphere: Spring Practice News, Selvie Signs With Bucs, And More

George Selvie signed a two-year deal with the Bucs on Tuesday to add potential depth on the defensive line. - Dilip Vishwanat

In a long-overdue post, we get everyone caught up on what's been happening at spring practice, talk about George Selvie signing with the Bucs, and cover everything else that's been going on with USF.

We haven't done much coverage of spring practice, and we apologize for that. There hasn't been a whole lot to work with outside of what's been posted on the official site, which is helpful, but you might as well read the official site for all that. Still, there are some other stories worth taking a look at as the spring game approaches in just 10 days.

Notes: Defense impresses in first scrimmage | Tampa Bay Times

Saturday's first scrimmage was a better show for the defense than the offense, but that's not surprising since the offense is putting in a brand-new scheme. Defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan has declined to single out any of his players for now, but Willie Taggart talked about a few of them after the scrimmage.

Ron Cooper settles in with USF Bulls coaching staff | Tampa Bay Times

Greg Auman put together a feature on defensive backs coach Ron Cooper, who had an easy living adjustment going from the Bucs to the Bulls, but a bit more of an adjustment back to coaching college players. Cooper has also been working with the punt returners from time to time. With Terrence Mitchell suspended, USF's in the market for a new punt returner, and Cooper has been, um, "helping."

Practice Report: Day 8 -- Bulls 247 [$]

Mike Tramontell of Bulls 247 noted that Ryne Giddins and Thor Jozwiak participated in their first spring practices on Monday, and D'vario Montgomery and Marcus Shaw were limited by ankle injuries.

Pipeline open: Miami Central guard commits to USF | Tampa Bay Times

We don't make a big deal out of recruits that commit in the early months, just because there's so much time for something else to happen between now and next February, but USF picked up an offensive lineman from Telly Lockette's old high school last week -- Michael Smith, a 315-pound guard.

George Selvie signs with Buccaneers on two-year deal - Bucs Nation

The Bucs signed several free agents on Tuesday, including former USF defensive end George Selvie, who agreed to a two-year deal. Even though Selvie is going into his fourth year in the NFL, this will be his fourth team. Maybe the logic is that Greg Schiano knew how to take Selvie out of a game when he was at Rutgers, so now he can try to help get him back in it.

Heath gets homecoming in 2014 game at Detroit | Tampa Bay Times

USF does a sneaky good job with their non-conference basketball schedules. Even though the names aren't always familiar (something we'd still like to see more of), they do find a balance between warmup games and teams that will actually be worth playing, like VCU in the last few years, and now Detroit. The Titans will visit Tampa next season, and then in 2014-15 the Bulls will visit Detroit, the hometown of Stan Heath and incoming guard Bo Zeigler, and not far from JaVontae Hawkins' hometown of Flint.

University of Tulsa Joins Current BIG EAST in 2014-15 > The BIG EAST Conference > News

YEEAAAAAAHHHHH GET EXCITED. Or not. The only thing I can remember Tulsa giving us in the last 10 years was that game against Oklahoma State that didn't kick off until like 1 in the morning. In other Conference of the Damned news, apparently the word "Metro" is going to be in the title. I still think that should be the only word in the title, because calling it "Big" or forcing the word "America" into it is going to be really hokey.
