The USF WBB, 19-9 (8-7) are hoping for a regular season finale win at Georgetown before they head into the Big East tournament.
The USF WBB team fell 51 to 85 to Uconn on Saturday afternoon on Senior Night. The Bulls were not able to keep up with the hot shooting of the Huskies and dropped their record to 19-9 (8-7) on the season, making it two straight defeats for the ladies as the regular season comes to an end. In the loss, Inga Orekhova had 13 points and 6 rebounds. Andrell Smith had 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists but turned it over 5 times. Andrea Smith had 10 points and 3 rebounds. Alisia Jenkins had 10 points and 6 rebounds, Akila McDonald had 7 rebounds and 2 blocks, and Courtney Williams had 5 points and 3 rebounds.
The Bulls now head to the nation's capital to take on 14-14 (5-10) Georgetown in the last regular season of the game before they head into the Big East tournament. The Hoyas are 8-5 this year at home and are coming off of a loss to Marquette in the last outing, so they will be ready to rebound and take out USF before the tournament starts.
The big-time weapon for the Hoyas is senior guard Sugar Rodgers (5'11") who leads the team with 22.3 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 4.25 APG, and has 99 steals. She is a big time scorer and does everything for her team, taking over the court on both sides of the ball. The Bulls backcourt (Smith twins and Orekhova) will need to keep her contained if USF wants a chance to win this game. Senior forward Andrea White (6') averages 11.1 PPG, 6.5 RPG, and 66 steals on the season, giving the Hoyas a tough, inside paint presence and will pose a threat to Alisia Jenkins both inside the paint and on the perimeter. Senior center Sydney Wilson (6'6") is averaging 6.8 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and leads the team with 26 blocks. Akila McDonald and Caitlin Rowe will have to keep her off the glass.
This is a huge game for the Bulls. USF was getting closer to the NCAA tournament, with two straight losses, those chances are slim now. The Bulls need a strong road win and will have to do some work in the Big East tournament if they want to improve their resume, but it all starts tomorrow night at 8 PM.
