The Big East's New Sportsmanship Commercial Drips With Irony

The same creative team that brought you Rocky grilling steaks at a barbecue in last year's conference ad now brings you... this.

I think the Big East really could have hammered home this fantastic inside joke by having someone from the Providence Mafia give the speech instead of an anonymous old man on a front porch, but whatever. Let's get rolling.

"When I look back on my life, I have one major regret."

Not inviting Penn State in the early 80s?

"I hate to admit it, but I was a poor sport."

Like when other conferences kept picking off all your best members because you were too busy worrying about basketball, so instead of doing what you should have done 20 years ago you just bellyached?

"I said and did awful things, and I know I hurt people."

"The Big East is stronger and has more vitality today than it ever has had in its 32-year history." John Marinatto last August, while Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia were busy sneaking out the back door and cutting off the other five football members at the knees. (Oh, and Marinatto said almost the exact same thing the year before.)

"But I didn't care. It was all for the good of the team!"

The Providence basketball team, that is.

"Now I'm embarrassed and ashamed. I knew better. And so do you."

Don't we all. That's why Mike Aresco is here to try and clean up your mess.
