Back to the countdown, and here's another walk-on who you'll see on the field every now and again this year.
#48 LB Ruben Garcia
Redshirt Sophomore, 6'0" 242 lbs.
Stats in 2011: Appeared in five games. Made three tackles.
Current Spot on Depth Chart: Garcia was not listed on the post-spring depth chart.
How Did He Come to USF? Ruben was a preferred walk-on from Durant High School in Brandon, where he started all four years on the football team, and also lettered four times in basketball. Although Garcia had a scholarship offer from I-AA Charleston Southern and interest from FAU, he chose to walk on to his hometown program.
Recruiting Rankings: Garcia was not rated by Rivals or Scout.
Projected Playing Time In 2012: Garcia should continue seeing time on special teams, and may occasionally get some snaps at linebacker. During his press conference yesterday, Skip Holtz mentioned that some walk-ons might be in line for scholarships since there are a few to spare. If he continues to make progress and help the team, Garcia may be one of the players considered for that honor.
