Back to the countdown, as we meet a player looking for his first game action in 2012.
#37 FB Spencer Cavalieri
Redshirt Freshman, 6'2" 239 lbs.
Stats in 2011: Spencer redshirted last season.
Current Spot on Depth Chart: Not listed on the post-spring two-deep depth chart.
How Did He Come to USF? Spencer played at Gaither High School in Tampa, where he was an offensive lineman. But he was a little too small (or maybe a lot too small) to be a college lineman, so after he walked onto the USF team last fall and made the roster, he converted to fullback.
Recruiting Rankings: Cavalieri was not ranked by Rivals, Scout, or 247.
Projected Playing Time For 2012: Well, today would be a good day for Spencer to make something happen if he wants to get some on-field action this year. But if not, he'll help out on the scout team, and he's still in a pretty good position for the future because the coaches don't seem willing to spend scholarships on fullbacks out of high school -- they prefer to build them up from walk-ons and reward the ones who pan out with a scholarship.
