Today we meet a breakout candidate for this season.
#85 WR Ruben Gonzalez
Sophomore, 6'3" 201 lbs.
Stats in 2011: Played in 11 games as a true freshman and made 5 catches for 55 yards. He didn't pile up those stats in garbage time, either; he saw more and more important action as the season went on. Also had two tackles playing on special teams.
Current Spot on Depth Chart: Starting wide receiver.
How did he come to USF: From Robinson High School, as part of the 2011 recruiting class. Louisville, Iowa State, Rutgers, Purdue, and Washington State all expressed interest.
Recruiting Rankings: Rated a three-star recruit by all of the major websites.
Projected Playing Time for 2012: Hopefully, lots of it. Gonzalez and fellow receiver Andre Davis were the stars of Skip Holtz's second recruiting class, and their time to shine is now. Both are currently atop the depth chart, and USF's offense needs them to become deep threats to have a successful season.
