Today we meet someone trying to finally break into the starting lineup after waiting in the wings the past four seasons.
#73 OG Damien Edwards
5th Year Senior, 6'5" 329 lbs
Stats in 2011: Damien saw action in five games last year as a backup at both guard and tackle.
Current Spot on Depth Chart: Listed as the starter at left guard on the post-spring depth chart.
How did he come to USF: Damien is one of the new USF players to sign west of the Mississippi River. Edwards played at Chandler HS in Chandler, AZ after spending most of his youth playing basketball (You might remember that his brother Gavin played at UConn.). Wasn't highly recruited out of high school, with only FCS Northern Arizona offering before USF came into the picture.
Recruiting Rankings: Was listed as a 2-Star recruit by Scout, while Rivals did not bother to rank Edwards.
Projected Playing Time for 2011: There's a big name missing from the post-spring depth chart, and that's returning starter Danous Estenor. We will wait to see if Danous will bump Edwards or JUCO Lawrence Martin, but expect Edwards to get the most playing time of his career this season.
