Today we meet someone who has gained a bit of weight from last year.
#76 OT Darrell Williams
Sophomore, 6'5" 286 lbs
Stats in 2011: Off all the freshmen that saw the field last year, Williams might have been the biggest surprise. As a 245 lb true freshman, Williams emerged as the 3rd offensive tackle, playing in 10 games last season.
Current Spot on Depth Chart: Darrell was listed as the backup to Mark Popek at left tackle on the post-spring depth chart.
How did he come to USF: Williams comes to USF via Evans High School in Orlando. Williams never played a down of football before high school, preferring basketball in his native Jamaica. He quickly adapted to the game and had some big names after him his senior year. Darrell chose USF over offers from Florida State, South Carolina, Ole Miss, NC State and UCF.
Recruiting Rankings: Darrell was listed as a 3-star recruit by both Rivals and Scout (78th OT).
Projected Playing Time for 2011: After going on the George Selvie diet and putting on 45 pounds from last year, Williams will spend one more as the understudy to Popek at tackle. Expect Williams to be the opening day starter at tackle next year.
