USF Softball continues their slow trek up the polls after another perfect week, moving up one spot to #21 in the latest editions of the ESPN/USA Softball Collegiate and USA Today/NSCA Softball polls. Coach Eriksen's club took care of UMass and Hartford during the week before sweeping Rutgers to start off Big East play.
USF's play on the field was again noticed by the Big East, as the Bulls took home both weekly awards. Sara Nevins, who is a boss, grabbed her third straight Big East Pitcher of the Week award after picking up all three wins against Rutgers. Sara gave up only one run in 19 2/3 innings last week, dropping her ERA down to a NCAA-leading 0.55. Joining her is 1B Stephanie Medina, who took the Big East Player of the Week award. Medina had a monster week for USF, hitting .462 with two home runs and eight RBI.
At 29-5 so far this season, USF is off to their best start in school history and they have a chance to score a big win tonight. The Bulls will head up to Gainesville to take on the #4 Florida Gators this evening at 6:00 PM. USF will be looking to avenge a 3-2 extra inning loss suffered in the opening weekend of the season. After the UF game, the Bulls will finally leave the state of Florida for the first time all season to take on Pittsburgh in a three-game set starting on Saturday.
