Meanwhile, USF Women's Basketball Gave Up 20 Points In An Entire Game

We got too caught up in the men's NCAA Tournament excitement to mention this before, but Jose Fernandez and the women's basketball team earned a bid to the Women's NIT, which got underway this week. (They got an automatic bid -- I haven't figured out how that works, but it might have been for being the best team in the Big East that didn't go to the NCAAs.) The Bulls won the WNIT three years ago, and their attempt to get back to the championship got off to quite a start in the Upper Gym last night.

USF 76, Florida Atlantic 20.

That's right.

Twenty.

The stats from this game are just absurd. The Bulls held the Owls to 13.8% from the field (8-for-58). Jasmine Wynne scored as many points in the game as the entire FAU team. The Owls had 25 turnovers. USF committed just six fouls, leading to a grand total of three FAU free throws in the game. The 56-point margin of victory is the eighth-largest in school history. (The Bulls beat a school from Puerto Rico by 80 back in 2005, as Greg Auman found time to mention on Twitter.) And all this when Inga Orekhova shot 3-for-15 from the floor and only scored nine points.

Believe it or not, FAU actually scored 10 straight points in a stretch on either side of halftime. That's half their points for the whole game, all in a row. Outside of that, they were outscored 76-10.

I'm surprised Jose kept a straight face when he told GoUSFBulls.com after the game:

"We shared the basketball real well and we defended."

Oh. you think???

Next up in the second round is LADY SCUMBAGS, who beat Stetson 75-47 last night. That game will be Saturday night, also in the Upper Gym. Click here to see the entire WNIT bracket.
