Stampeding Through The Roster: #4 S Tyson Butler

Four days. I don't think much else needs to be said. Let's meet today's player.

#4 S Tyson Butler

5th Year Senior, 6'0", 202 lbs.

Stats In 2010: Tyson played in nine games last season, mostly as a reserve. Butler had six tackles in 2010.

Current Position On Depth Chart: With JaQuez Jenkins moving to cornerback, Butler is listed as the backup to Jon LeJiste at strong safety.

How He Came To USF: Butler arrived at USF from Cypress Lake High School in Fort Myers. Butler was a great running back for the Panthers, turning in a monster senior season for CLHS with 1928 yards and 27 touchdowns. Butler gained national recognition for his 439-yard, six-TD game against Baker High School. Tyson chose USF over offers from West Virginia, Pittsburgh, UCF and Indiana among others.

Recruiting Rankings: Butler was listed as a three-star recruit by both Rivals and Scout. Rivals had Butler as the 64th best "Athlete" in the country, while Scout had Tyson as the 71st best cornerback in the Class of 2007.

Projected Playing Time In 2011: With Jenkins moving to cornerback and C.J. Garye heading towards a redshirt, Butler will be used as the fourth safety this year. Tyson will also be used when the Bulls head to their dime sets, and he might see some special teams work as well.
