Stampeding Through The Roster: #17 WR Sterling Griffin

Today we meet someone who is ready to contribute after missing all of last year due to injury.

#17 WR Sterling Griffin

Redshirt Sophomore, 6'0" 191 lbs.

Stats In 2010: After starting as a freshman in 2009, Sterling dislocated his ankle during summer workouts and was redshirted last year. He actually suited up for a couple of games, but never came on the field and was shut down after the Syracuse game.

Current Position On Depth Chart: Sterling was listed as a co-backup with Derrick Hopkins and behind Terrence Mitchell at flanker on the post-spring depth chart.

How He Came To USF: Griffin came to USF from Monsignor Pace High School in Miami. Griffin had a solid senior year for the Spartans, catching 37 balls for 779 yards and nine touchdowns. Sterling chose USF over offers from Virginia, Ole Miss, Syracuse, and Pitt.

Recruiting Rankings: Sterling was rated as a three-star recruit by both Rivals and Scout, who had Sterling as the 135th best WR in the Class of 2009.

Projected Playing Time In 2011: After a so-so spring which saw him demoted to a backup, it sent a clear message to Sterling that he would have to work to earn his starting position back. From all accounts, Griffin has done just that and has had a solid fall camp. I'd expect Sterling to start this year and become one of B.J. Daniels' favorite targets.
