Today we meet a JUCO LB who is looking to break into the two-deep after enrolling early in January.
#35 LB Mike Jeune
Junior, 6'0", 216 lbs.
Stats In 2010: Mike was not on the roster last season.
Current Position On Depth Chart: Mike was listed as the backup to DeDe Lattimore at the WILL linebacker spot on the post-spring depth chart.
How He Came To USF: Jeune came from Independence CC in Kansas, where he earned honorable mention All-American Honors with a 98 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack, 3 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries season. Wanting to reunite with high school teammate Sam Barrington, Jeune chose USF over Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Kansas State.
Recruiting Rankings: Rivals did not rate Jeune while Scout game Mike a 2-Star rating.
Projected Playing Time In 2011: While Mike was listed at WILL on the depth chart, he will get an opportunity to compete with Reshard Cliett and Curtis Weatherspoon at SAM. Jeune was praised for his hard-nosed style of play and Darrell Scott singled him out for the big hits he was giving out in practice. The battle between those three will be the one of the ones to watch this fall during camp. Regardless of whether Mike starts or not, his versatility to play either outside linebacker position should give him the opportunity for a ton of snaps this year.
