Only 38 days left until Notre Dame, and today's #38 will have some impact in the defensive secondary. We just aren't sure how much.

#38 CB Ricardo Dixon

Redshirt Sophomore, 5'10", 173 lbs.

Stats In 2010: Dixon played sparingly last season, mostly in dime packages and on special teams. He did appear in 12 games, recording eight tackles and breaking up two passes.

Current Position On Depth Chart: Dixon is listed as a co-second string at left cornerback along with George Baker.

How He Came To USF: Ricardo starred at Hallandale High School, not far from Miami. In his junior season in 2007, Dixon broke up a whopping 30 passes and was named first-team all state cornerback. He followed that up with 52 tackles, 12 PBU, six interceptions, and a touchdown in 2008. Dixon participated in the Under Armour All-American Game and chose USF over a pretty impressive list of offers, including Florida State, Bobby Lowder's checkbook Auburn, Tennessee, West Virginia, and South Carolina.

Recruiting Rankings: Not surprisingly for someone with that many schools after him, Dixon was rated highly as a prospect. Rivals gave him three stars, listing him as the 49th best cornerback and the 83rd overall prospect in Florida. He also received three stars from Scout, who had him as the 33rd-ranked cornerback in the class of 2009.

Projected Playing Time In 2011: This one's tough to say. Dixon missed all of spring practice with an injury, but the coaches appear to have relented on their policy of not including injured players on their depth charts. So we at least know Dixon is in the discussion. Is Dixon one of the three or four best cornerbacks on the roster? I have to think he is, and that means he should play in nickel and dime packages in just about every game, and also give starter Kayvon Webster a break from time to time. He might also continue playing on special teams.
