USF Basketball To Play Exhibition Game At University Of Tampa

Did you miss out on seeing a USF-UCF basketball game in the Knights' tiny old arena, where like 3,000 people would show up but it sounded more like 15,000? Because if you did, you're going to get a chance to relive that experience on November 5, according to one of the University of Tampa's men's basketball assistants. I'm generally in favor of playing the Spartans in exhibition games like men's soccer with the Rowdies Cup, and I actually figured this game could happen since the Sun Dome renovation might take the entire 2011-12 season. UofTampa's home arena was one of the rumored sites for some of the early non-conference games, so this could be the "cost" for using the Bob Martinez Sports Center once or twice. (I'd prefer they go there instead of the Lakeland Center if they can't play in the St. Pete Times Forum. I know USF Polytechnic is out in Lakeland and it would be nice to throw them a bone, but NO ONE shows up to those games because it's so far away from most of the fan base.) UofTampa has beaten D-I teams before -- they famously beat N.C. State in 1986 when the Wolfpack were ranked 11th. (Seven-year-old me was very impressed by this, although I couldn't figure out after that how they could ever lose games to Eckerd or Barry.) Ken points out the Spartans lost their top three scorers from last season, but that's not going to stop me from breathing into a paper bag unless USF has at least a 20-point lead.
