USF Football's All-Name Team: Defense

The 2011 football season will be USF's 15th season in program history, and I'm sure you'll see a ton on All-USF lists from various publications in the coming months. We did a "15 For 15" series last summer to highlight our choices for the top 15 players in school history, and we felt that doing an All-USF team so soon after that would just be a repost. (Although there may be a 40th anniversary all-USF basketball team in a few months.)

Now it's time for the defensive unit on our All-Name Team. If you missed the offense on Monday, here it is again.

DL: Tchecoy Blount, 1998-2001; Therrimann Edwards, 1997-2000; Tavares Jurineack, 1999-2002; Siaosi Uhatafe, 2004-06

The first couple of seasons had some great names on the defensive line. We talked about Edwards and Jurineack during the roster countdown. Tchecoy was a great player for those early early teams and now is the new head coach at Freedom High School in Tampa. Uhatafe moved around from FB to DL, but we couldn't leave him off this team. Jason Pierre-Paul just missed the cut.

LB: Sharly Azard, 2010-Current; Quavon Taylor, 2008; Brouce Mompremier, 2005-08

Linebacker was a loaded position. When you have guys like Vassay Marc, Sabbath Joseph, and Jacquian Williams missing the cut, you know its a deep list. We talked about Sharly on Tuesday. Quavon came to USF from Miami Northwestern, but academic issues forced him to transfer after one season. Brouce Mompremier was a starter in 2007 and 2008 before a neck injury ended his career early.

DB: Mistral Raymond, 2008-10; Kayvon Webster, 2009-Current; JaQuez Jenkins, 2009-Current; Thanasi Mihalakos, 2010-Current

Defensive back was a thin position, although these four were the clear front runners. Mistral is off to the NFL after spending the last two seasons working at CB and FS. Kayvon should be a starter at corner this season to replace Raymond. JaQuez has spent the last two seasons as a backup at safety, and Mihalakos walked-on last year and provided depth on special teams.

P: Zuriel Andrusyshyn, 1998

Zuriel was a backup to Tony Umholtz in his only season at USF, but holy crap, that is an amazing name. Delbert Alvarado deserves recognition here as well.

So there you have it folks. Anyone that we missed? Let us know in the comments.
