Stampeding Through The Roster: #74 OT Mark Popek

After playing as a co-starter the last two season, the next person on the countdown is ready to take over on the offensive line.

#74 OT Mark Popek

Reshirt Junior, 6'7" 283 lbs

Stats in 2010: Mark was hampered by an MCL sprain in 2010, but still played in 7 games, starting in 4 of them.

Current Spot on Depth Chart: Mark is listed as the starter at left tackle on the post-spring depth chart.

How did he come to USF: Mark came to USF via nearby Plant City High School, where he garnered 2nd Team All-State honors in Class 5A. Popek chose USF over offers from Vanderbilt, Troy, and Illinois.

Recruiting Rankings: Mark was a late bloomer in the recruiting rankings, only given a 2-Star ranking by Rivals. Popek was a 3-Star prospect according to Scout and was ranked as the 83th best OT in the Class of 2008.

Projected Playing Time for 2011: After working as a co-starter the last two seasons with Jamar Bass, Popek will be the 1st-3rd option at left tackle this season. Popek will be given the difficult task of protecting B.J. Daniels' blindside, and I think he will be up to the challenge. If not, this might be a long season for the Bulls on offense.
