South Alabama G Martino Brock Transfers To USF

With MoMo Jones and Martin Bruenig choosing Iona and Washington respectively, Coach Stan Heath still had one scholarship available for the 2011 season. Instead of sitting on it and using it for the 2012 class, Greg Auman of the St. Pete Times is reporting that South Alabama guard Martino Brock will transfer to USF, choosing the Bulls over Missouri, UAB, and Auburn.

The 6'5 Brock had a very productive sophomore season for the Jaguars, where he led USA in scoring with 14.2 PPG. Brock also chipped in 3.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and a team high 1.7 steals a game for South Alabama. I would like to see Martino improve his free throw shooting, as he only hit 55% for his attempts.

ESPN has a really nice breakdown of Martino's game while still in prep school,

Brock has very good athleticism and quickness, which he uses to get to the paint. He excels in one-on-one situations and really understands how to create his own shot. Brock has a nice step-back move that he uses to create space for his jumper in the middle game. He has to really improve his accuracy and consistency from the perimeter, in particular from 3-point range.

While ESPN was conerned with his 3-point shootng, Martino has improved his shot when arriving at USA. After shooting 27% his freshman year, Brock made 34% of his shots this season.

Brock will be a nice addition at the 3-guard. With Hugh Robertson leaving after this season, Brock and Victor Rudd will compete for the starting position in 2012.

With Brock's transfer, USF will have 3 available scholarships to use for the 2012 class.

Welcome to USF Martino!

Momo chose Iona?

(shaking head) I wish him luck, I just cant see how anyone could visit Tampa and then White Plains NY, and choose the latter

Never made it to campus.

He has a sick grandmother in NY, and that was the reason he left Arizona. Thought Seton Hall would have been his landing spot after he couldn’t go to St. Johns.

You don't usually see players transfer into a bigger program.

Any reason why he left South Alabama?
