It's kind of surprising how few players have worn numbers in the 80s in USF history. There isn't a #82 on this year's roster, and there are only five players who have ever put that uniform on for the Bulls. Deciding the best #82 is pretty easy, though. With apologies to Ben Busbee, a pretty good tight end who had his moment of glory against Florida State in 2009, the best player to ever wear #82 is Rj Anderson.
Rj was another transfer to a new USF program, joining the team in 1998 from BYU after starring at Buchholz High School in Gainesville. In his two seasons in green and gold, Anderson made 61 catches for 945 yards and 10 touchdowns. He led or tied for the lead in receptions in both 1998 and 1999, and he's tied for fourth all-time on the career touchdown receptions list.
I'm very confused about what Rj did after his college career because it's very easy to confuse him with another R.J. Anderson, a defensive back recruit who never made it to campus after signing with USF in 2005. (And also with noted Rays blogger R.J. Anderson of The Process Report, who may or may not be the same person... who knows.) I think he played in the Arena league with the Storm but it's very hard to tell. A little help, guys?
