Reading the V5 post about everyone's favorite Sun Dome Memories got me thinking about mine. Now, I'm a bit younger then our resident V5 bloggers, so my memories only go back to 2005. Trying to think of the top moment was tough. There was the 2009-10 season, and watching DoJo go on a tear. Then there was storming the court after knocking off Notre Dame in 2007. There was also camping in the shadow of the Sun Dome for football tickets to USF-West Virginia. And how can I forget my first USF game and watching Jim Burr through a father and his son out of the game.
Of all my memories, my favorite was a personal one. UAB had come to town in December of 2007. Mike Davis was in his second season there and his team was in all kinds of off the court trouble. leading to a 10pm team curfew. Well I made it my personal mission to heckle #42 Walter Sharpe the entire game about his marijuana habit. Every chance I got, I was screaming something about pot in his direction.
It all peaked late in the 2nd half. Sharpe had a bounce pass go through his hands, off his chest, and out of bounds. "Guess that's what happens to your hand-eye coordination when you smoke that Mary Jane!" He just shook his head and back went down the court. Next possession, he was fouled on a shot and I was in his head for those free-throws. "Hey Walter, Just add a zero to your number and you're all set for 4:20" *clunk* "Just Say No! Just Say No! Just Say No!" He chuckled, shook his head, and then bricked the 2nd shot.
Victory was mine.
