A List Of Sports USF Is Not Good At

Presented without comment. Well, almost.

  • Men's basketball
  • Women's basketball
  • Baseball
  • Softball
  • Volleyball
  • Men's Golf
  • Women's Golf (excluding Shena Yang)
  • Women's Tennis
  • Cross Country
  • Track & Field (outside of a few individual performers like the football sprinters and Denise von Eynatten)

If you're counting them up, that's 10 out of USF's 15 sports. Those better be some spectacular facilities.

But hey, apparently none of those matters because we're halfway decent at football.

So...

Are we asking for them to can Doug Woolard?

Or just that they start to give a crap about the other teams?

Prado can GTFO. There are community colleges in Florida that would take 2 out of 3 from USF right now, no exaggeration.

Well I'm pretty sure the smaller sports are not being well tended to.

Example: Look how long the men’s golf team was bad before Jim Fee was replaced. And even then he wasn’t straight out fired, he was reassigned to an events job.

USF is meeting their stated goals of competing for Big East championships and national championships in not even half their sports. Not even winning them, just competing for them.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of changes soon.

New facilities bring new expectations. Especially with our little brother just down the road competing so well lately. If we accept this mediocrity for much longer we deserve to be the sixth or seventh best athletic department in the state.

Ding ding ding!

That’s why, for example, we’ve started calling the new baseball stadium No More Excuses Field. The facilities are nice and needed, but everyone goes on the clock when they’re done.

I give Woolard 2 or 3 years, clock starting fall of 2011.

If there’s not significant improvement in basketball, Stan’s gone after next season. That’ll send a message. Woolard next. Prado’s had plenty of success in his career; I see him staying longer than anyone. We can’t put all our eggs in the football basket.

Another glass of Holtz-Aide, please. Ahhhh… That’s refreshing!

I hope so

There is no excuse for a major university in Tampa to be bad at baseball. We should be competing for the BE title in that sport every year with one of the, if not the biggest hotbed of local talent in the nation. Ditto for golf.

I’d be on board for a new A.D. bring in an assistant AD from a big time program that has been around success and see if he (or…trying not to laugh..“she”) can bring a winning attitude to USF athletics.

And I just wrote to someone today how we almost never go negative...

This is me ducking the lightning bolts coming at my house from Fowler Ave.

This story isn't negative. Just realistic.

I commend you all on your willingness to say what needs to be said.

We're competitive at football in the South.

That makes up for a metric fuckton of incompetence elsewhere in the athletics department.

We should be at least competent in baseball

no reason a team from Tampa should be below .500 in baseball.

4 out of 17 isn't half.

And they’re still losing to Elon and Evansville and FGCU (all at home).

I don't mind the losses to UF

But losing series to Elon and Evansville shouldn’t happen. Good win against UCF last night though.

I'll take a win over UCF...

…as a salve for almost any wound.
