Around SBN: Will Rhymes 'Fine' After Being Hit By Pitch And Fainting

Please Excuse Our Lack Of UCF Panic

If you're a UCF fan and you've come here looking for your morning dose of schadenfreude (possibly on some crazy Mike Bianchi-fueled bender, and no we never link to any of his garbage)... well, you've come to the wrong place. We've been prepared for this for almost a year.

I'm going to do a full revision to our old position paper in a day or so, now that completely ignoring you is impractical. But here are the highlights:

  • This is a USF blog. We're going to talk about things that happen at USF and that affect USF. That's not changing at all. Sometimes that involves you, but most of the time it doesn't.
  • The Big East sucks for reasons that have very little to do with the fact that UCF in it now. Actually, on the whole you guys made it slightly better, or at least more interesting.
  • We haven't had this problem very much, but trolls of all persuasions will be dealt with using extreme prejudice. This is not a message board. And when you get banned, you stay banned. Remember what the membership agreement said when you signed up for this blog: "Don't say anything you're not prepared to back up with proof, or at least some logic."
  • Rivals win sometimes.
  • Will one of you start a decent blog about yourselves? Please? (Blogs solely devoted to hating us don't count. Neither does Hellwig's happy fun times site.) When you do, we'll be glad to talk to you and meet you for games and invite you to stuff like Protect Your Unit.

Actually, you know why we're not panicking? Because we don't think UCF will ever figure out USF's secret, and we're certainly not going to tell you what it is. Unless that happens, things are not going to change very much between the two schools.

Have a nice day.

It's a good stance and it's been followed well

Hopefully SBNation blogs pop up for all the new schools. I believe Boise is the only school that currently has one. Should have been a requisite to join the Big East.

Still waiting on Providence and DePaul to hop aboard.

Doesn’t help that there are literally no UCF blogs out there.Sure its the same with SMU, Houston, and SDSU

Bad basketball only schools don't count

Football is all that really matters. I mean do you really want to know any more about DePaul beyond the fact their over they are over heads in the Big East and should have been treating them like Temple.

I know our secret!

Big wins outside the conference, no wins in conference play! We need a new secret…

Wait, we have a secret?

This is coming from a USF alum who’s been doing the home games with family for the last 4 years or so…

Actually, when I think about it, there’s really not much of a secret to USF when it comes to UCF. We just don’t f-cking care about UCF or Mickeytown in general. Even if Central Florida ever wins a game, we’re still in Tampa, they’re still in Orlando, we’re cool they suck end of story.

What about Clemenza's spaghetti recipe?

found at http://theurbanpossum.blogspot.com/2004/11/godfathers-spaghetti-sauce.html

2 tbsp. olive oil
2-4 cloves garlic, chopped
2 large (28-ounce) cans tomatoes (whole, crushed or chopped)
1 10-ounce or 2 6-ounce cans tomato paste
3 to 4 Italian sausages, grilled and sliced
1 lb. cooked meatballs (use your favorite recipe)
Dry red wine
1/4 cup sugar

1. Heat the oil over medium heat in a large pot.
2. Add garlic and cook for a few minutes. Do not let the garlic burn.
3. Add tomatoes and tomato paste. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring continuously so that a relatively smooth consistence is reached.
4. Add sausages and meatballs. Stir until the meat is coated.
5. Add a splash of red wine, then the sugar according to taste.
6. Reduce heat to medium-low and let simmer for a minimum of 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
7. Serve by ladling over cooked pasta.

Sooooo....

Did we kill a hobo? Not to make light of killing hobos or anything like that, but I’ve been ’round these parts for 10 years straight and I have no idea what our secret is.

So the Big Not-East looks like this:

Survivors:
South Florida
UConn
Rutgers
Cincinnati
Louisville

Newcomers:
Central Florida
Southern Methodist
Houston
Boise State
San Diego St.

Still Waiting:
Navy
Air Force

I can see the Western side of the conference to be Boise St, San Diego, SMU, Houston, and Air Force, but can they honestly shuffle Lousville or Cincinnati into that side of things? Can they afford the costs of long-distance travel like that?

Can’t we just kick UCF out, bring in UNLV, and balance out the East (USF, Rutgers, UConn, Navy, Cincy, Lousville) to West (Houston, SMU, Boise St., Air Force, UNLV, San Diego St.)?

I get that you don't like UCF

But how would it make any sense to replace them with UNLV? They aren’t good at ANYTHING, especially not football.

One thing UNLV is good at:

Being a great destination for road games. If USF ever plays at UNLV in anything, I’m all over that.

One thing I noticed about this new league:

Is that it can be split into nice, neat geographic pairs:

South Florida/UCF (97 miles)
Louisville/Cincinnati (105 miles)
Rutgers/UConn (183 miles)
Houston/SMU (250 miles, or an short flight)
Boise State/San Diego State (pretty far, but instead of two cross-country flights you could make one three-stopper out of it)

Which is relevant, because I think the next move is the Big East basketball/football breakup. The only football schools with pre-2005 Big East membership are Rutgers and UConn. If automatic qualifiers are abolished altogether, I think the stage is set for the above schools (minus maybe SDSU and Boise) to form their own new league. You’ve got schools of similar size, history, level of competition, and urban location. A sensible arrangement that could stay together for awhile, and has some built-in history.

UConn and Rutgers would probably prefer the Big East, but will need homes for their football programs since Big East football will now be extinct. They can be football-only members of our league. As for the western pair, a return to the Mountain West probably makes more sense at that point. To that you could add these pairs of schools:

Memphis/Southern Miss (300 miles)
East Carolina/Charlotte (243 miles)

And end up with something like this:

EAST DIVISION: South Florida, UCF, Rutgers, UConn, East Carolina, Charlotte
WEST DIVISION: Houston, SMU, Memphis, Southern Miss, Louisville, Cincinnati

I know, I know, we dread the thought of life with Southern Miss and East Carolina and Memphis. But in a — I can’t believe I’m going to type this — post-automatic qualifier/plus-one world, a regrouping might be much more bearable, since there’s no formal division of haves and have nots for anyone to gloat over. And I’d like to think time would have healed some old wounds by 2014.

Instead of the Big East losing AQ status, AQ status would simply cease to exist, like the Soviet Union. Maybe Latvia isn’t as powerful as Russia, but they’re both countries, by God, stable and sensibly defined and free to decide their own destiny. A destiny that no longer needs cockamamie BCS-driven arrangements like West Virginia in the Big 12 and San Diego State in the Big East.

Get the Liberty Bowl and a couple other bowl games on board and I think we’ve got a viable long-term plan here.

I never understood the animosity towards Southern Miss...

they ARE a pretty good college team… they were making upsets of Top 25 schools long before we did
