USF-Marist Preview, Or Bulls Try To Make It Two In a Row

Your undefeated USF Bulls (1-0) head down to the St. Pete Times Forum as they take on the Marist Red Foxes tonight in Game 2 of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Tournament. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM and the game will be shown regionally on Bright House Sports Network and streaming over the internet on ESPN 3. If you can't get in front of a TV, make your way to the game, or have ESPN 3, Jim Lighthall and Todd Kalas will have the call for you on WHNZ 1250 AM.

Here are your probable starting lineups for tonight:

Marist USF
5'8" Fr. Isaiah Morton G 6'1" Soph. LaVonte Dority
6'1" Jr. Devin Price
G 6'4" Jr. Shaun Noriega
6'5" Soph. Jay Bowie F 6'8" Soph. Victor Rudd
6'6" Jr. Dorvel Carter
F 6'10" Sr. Augustus Gilchrist
6'10" Soph. Adam Kemp F 6'8" Ron Anderson Jr.

Marist is in year 2 of a long rebuilding effort. Coming off a 6 win season last year, the Red Foxes were picked to finish 10th in the MAAC this season and it will most likely be another long season for the fans in Poughkeepsie. In their 108-58 season opening loss to Kentucky, Marist held tough against the Wildcats in the first half, but Marist's lack of depth showed up in a big way as they were run out of the gym in the second half.

A big surprise for Marist was newcomer Isaiah Morton, who led the Red Foxes in scoring with 13 points on 6-11 shooting. Dorvell Carter had 12 points, while Tampa native Jay Bowie had 8 PTS/6 REB/3 AST on the night.

If there is one big advantage USF will have tonight, its the huge height advantage the Bulls have over Marist. The Red Foxes only have 2 players over 6'6" on the roster (Pieter Prinsloo is the other) and if they get into foul trouble, Marist might have to run the rare 5 guard offense.

USF should receive some help depth wise with Toarlyn Fitzpatrick back in action after his one game suspension. Don't be surprised if Toarlyn receives even more minutes than usual after Ron Anderson Jr. and Augustus Gilchrist each had to log over 30 minutes. The Bulls will also have a chance to throw out some smaller lineups, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Blake Nash and LaVonte Dority look while on the court together. Also don't be surprised is Alberto Damour is eased into the rotation at times tonight. Fatigue is going to be a major concern this week and Heath will need to have everyone as fresh as possible for the games this weekend.

How do I see this one playing out? I think the Bulls cruise easily tonight. USF will be able to do whatever they want down low, and Marist's lack of depth will show up in the final 15 minutes.

Bulls win by 20.
