Tweets From Last Night
Sure we're all disgusted at Duke winning. (Some more than others.) But there's no reason for truly insane tweets like this one right after the game, from the Tampa Tribune's Scott Carter, who usually is better than this:
TBO_USF_Bulls Even in a down year, ACC still wins national title. That's why it's best conference year in and year out. Sorry Big East.
Let's try this out on another sport to see how ridiculous it sounds:
"Even in a down year, NFC South still wins Super Bowl. That's why it's best division year in and year out. Sorry NFC East."
Now let's try it out with a really down-and-out conference to see how ridiculous it would sound. What if California or Washington had somehow won the title?
"Even in a down year, PAC-10 still wins the national title. That's why it's best conference year in and year out. Sorry Big East."
How about in a completely different field?
"Even in a down year, Sandra Bullock still wins an Oscar. That's why she's best actress year in and year out. Sorry Meryl Streep."
The point is you can't make sweeping blanket statements like that, especially in college basketball where the best team in a given year often doesn't win the title. Last year? Absolutely, North Carolina was the best team. But I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who really believes Duke was the best team this year, or even one of the top five teams, other than this guy. It's the kind of thing an ignorant ESS EEE CEE football fan would say.

I respect the Big 12 & Big East but the ACC is top dog in basketball most years.
Even our 10th place team UNC goes to NIT finals.
GO NOLES!!! SCALP EM!
Come on really?
Sticking out your chest on UNC making it to the NIT Finals? It would be different if it were Virginia or NC State, but this is a team full of HS All-Americans.

More apt version of this guy's tweet
“Even in a down year, the Lakers win the NBA Finals. That’s why Los Angeles has the best pro basketball teams year in and year out!”
It’s been a two-team league forever. Those two teams are usually very good. The rest of the league is roughly equal to teams 6-15 in the Big East, despite this year’s tournament failures.
Orange Bowl/dual Final Fours or bust in 2011. We're going all-in.
If you want to bring up tournament failures,
the ACC had six teams in and only Duke made it out of the second round.

The ACC is a pretty strong conference in a lot of sports.
They run the commercial on Raycom with the ACC Commish that says 4 out of the last 5 years the ACC was top conference overall (every college athletic sport combined)
GO NOLES!!! SCALP EM!
Oh, the ACC is definitely in the discussion
for the best basketball conference. But I don’t like saying conference X is the best one unless it’s blatantly obvious. They’re too hard to compare to one another when it’s close because things get really subjective.

Duke was clearly one of the top 5 teams
I don’t know how you can say they weren’t. Look at their stats. I know Kansas was considered the best but Duke was right there with them.
Anyway, I agree with the main point of this post.
Other crazy people who thought Duke was top 5 this year...
