Bulls Finish 2011 Schedule with FAMU and UTEP
Big news out of Fowler Ave, as AD Doug Woolard announced that USF has completed its 2011 schedule with home games against Florida A&M and UTEP. The FAMU game has been talked about for the past couple of months, and even before the football season started it seemed like the contract was all but finished up. The Rattlers brought a great crowd with them in 2005, and it was the 2nd largest home football game ever at the time. In addition to the 2011 game, Florida A&M will also come to Raymond James in 2015 to face the Bulls. USF will pay Florida A&M 400k in 2011, and 450k in 2015. Not too bad considering they will bring a significant following to see the Marching 100. Speaking of the 100, here is what we have to look forward to.

The surprise of the announcement has to be the UTEP game. I don't think anyone thought that the Miners would be coming to Tampa, let alone for a payday game. From what Voodoo was telling me, even Texas had to make a return trip to El Paso when they scheduled the Miners. USF will pay UTEP 650k for the trip to Tampa, which isn't bad given that some schools are asking for 800k or so a game now. From just reading Greg and Adam's twitter feeds, this was the last team they had in mind when thinking about USF's 12th opponent. For UTEP coverage, make sure you head over to our sister site Miner Rush.
With the schedule finally completed, USF fans will be happy to know that we will have seven home games to attend to next season, including UTEP and FAMU, the Bulls will be hosting West Virginia, Cincinnati, Louisville, Ball State, and Miami. Should be a fun time at Raymond James next year.

I'm satisfied with the result.
I’m not overly joyed to play UTEP, but a 1 and done really makes this a great move.
I’m really not sure why we just don’t cycle FMAU, BCC, and Nova as our 1AA opponent year after year. We might as well keep the money in the state/conference. No one really cares if you play the best or the worst 1AA team. It doesn’t make a difference.
Go Bulls!
Repeat after me...
You never, NEVER play a 1AA that’s any good. Ask Michigan, Va Tech, Ole Miss… Just take a patsy and woodshed them. There is no benefit to playing a good team from that level.
Villanova is the reigning FCS Champs. I wouldn’t touch them with a 10 foot pole.

Toro-
I agree with you about playing good 1AA teams, but Villanova could be a conference game sooner or later. If the other Big East schools made an effort to try to schedule them. That could be the prodding the program would need to make the move up. After the recent success of the top tier 1AA teams ‘upsetting’ legacy schools. I doubt they will happen with the same frequency.
Texas will go to some weird places
They basically played at Rice this year (the game was at Reliant Stadium in Houston), they went to Wyoming a couple years ago, of course UCF, and UTEP.
Anyway, I’m impressed USF now has enough juice to get a I-A guarantee game. This also means the only non-conference road game next year is at Notre Dame.

Also this is a much better idea
than going to FAU and opening their new stadium against a fired-up crowd and team. Glad to see they learned from the near-disaster at SCUMBAGS a couple years ago.

FSU is paying UL-Monroe 1.3 million for same deal.
Holy crap did we get a bargain.

FSU has more money to spend, and I bet UTEP felt they were in a pinch.
On top of that, I bet UTEP feels they can beat us next year. They’ll take the cash for a winnable BCS road game.
Note: I’m not saying they’re going to win, but I would imagine that’s their perception.

I'll never say we can't beat anybody- but look below- we will be a young, inexperienced team
From UTEP’s end, this reeks of desperation. We previously had the Kansas Jayhawks cheduled for that date at Lawrence (they came to El Paso last season). I’m purely guessing here, but I’m guessing that KU bump’d UTEP because of the new Big 12 schedule changes that occur next season (Colorado, Nebraska leaving) and UTEP needed somebody for that date that could write a check. That’s just a guess- but if KU is off our final schedule, it will be confirmed.

I cleaned up your triple post
Unfortunately I think I deleted one of Gary’s responses too, because it chopped off the whole thread. Sorry about that.

That's OK.
What I said was, I really think th
Very cool- Hope to make the trip to Tampa to see the game
UTEP is losing 5 senior starters on the O-Line, 2 starting senior wide receivers, a senior RB, and a four year starting senior QB after this season. So, yes, I’m kind of worried about making the trip…… maybe you guys can rec some bars when we get a little closer.
